The Mayor, Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije breaking the ground for the project to commenceThe Accra Metropolitan Assembly has broken the ground for the construction of another Millennium City School at Gbegbeise, a suburb of Accra.

The construction of the edifice is part of the 104 Millennium City Schools being built in the metropolis to completely eliminate the shift system.

The 3-storey building, which is estimated at GH¢2.9 million, will consist of 18 classrooms, teachers’ offices, library, sporting facility, and computer and science laboratories. Children from nearby and surrounding communities like Mamponse, Shiabu, Glefe, Wiaboman and Pambros would benefit from this initiative.

The Accra Mayor, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, together with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Fritz Baffour and some officers at the AMA broke the ground for the commencement of the school project. The Accra Mayor, who has devoted greater part of his life to teaching, said parents and guardians shouldn’t deprive their wards off quality education.

He said it was with only education that the new generation would uncover the knowledge of not repeating the mistakes of the past age. Per instructions of the assembly, the pupils and teachers of the Gbegbeise Cluster of School would temporarily join the Dansoman ‘1’ Primary and Junior High School to enable the speed completion of the project.

The assembly would a free bus to convey the pupils and their instructors daily till the completion of the school. The facility was also designed to benefit the physical challenged, which, according to him, was the first of its kind. The project, he disclosed, was financed by the Ministry of Communication and Jacnan Company.

Fritz Bafour, MP for the Ablekuma South Constituency, said the groundbreaking for the edifice was a manifestation and beginning of something good coming to the community.
