A section of the poor road network on your way to the Kpone TownshipBy Richard Attenkah

The Chief Executive of the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly, Alhaji Antieye Tetteh, has expressed his disappointment at the management of Core Constructions Limited, the contractor working on the Tema-Kpone road.
According to him, the contract was awarded to the company by former President John Evans Atta Mills of blessed memory, but till date, it has still not been completed.
The 15-kilometre road linking Tema to Kpone was awarded to Core Construction in the year 2009, long before the District Assembly was created.
Unfortunately, till date, only about 80 percent of the road has been completed, leaving the remaining 20 percent to become headache for motorists who ply the stretch on a daily basis, as a result of its poor nature.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Accra File, Alhaji Tetteh said the Assembly cannot take up the construction, because it will be a breach of contract, as it has already been awarded to Core Construction.
He added that besides the fact that the contract has already been awarded for execution, the Assembly lacked the financial muscle to undertake such a huge project, regarding the construction of roads in the area, saying road construction is capital intensive.
Alhaji Tetteh continued that when work on the road was delaying, his outfit had a meeting with the contractor to, at least, smoothen the surface of the road by grading to level it to make it motorable.
He disclosed that all efforts to get the contractor to continue work on the road to restore public confidence in the government, and by extension, the Assembly, has hit the rocks, as the contractor has failed to move to site.
The DCE explained that the action of the contractor is a major source of worry to the Assembly, thus expressing his disappointment in the construction company.
He advised construction companies, especially those working on roads, to do their best to execute any contract awarded them, and on time.
