Drivers, inhabitants and other road users in the Kwahu West Municipality have heaped praises on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Alex Somuah Obeng, for the construction of two traffic lights at separate locations in the area.

The areas include Y-Junction and the Beposo-Kumasi Accra road, which residents of the municipality described as frustrating and worrying during rush hours and market days.

Work on the project, which has commenced with immediate effect and would cost about GH¢300,000 when completed in the next four months, would be the first traffic lights in the history of the municipal capital.

Drivers and residents of the municipality who spoke to the paper in a separate interviews at the Nkawkaw lorry park on Tuesday, expressed their pleasure over the construction of the traffic lights, since, to them, they would be the solution to the volume of both human and vehicular traffic in the area.

Touching on what informed the Assembly to embark on the construction of the traffic lights, the MCE said the construction of the ongoing traffic lights was taken as a solution to the state of lawlessness that had characterised activities on those roads.

To him, Nkawkaw, unlike other cities, is centrally located, as it connects Kwahu East, Kumasi, Atiwa, and Birim North, which makes the place economically attractive and lively, since people from all these areas come to do business there.

To this end, the Assembly took the decision to mount the traffic lights at vantage points in an effort to reduce traveling time.

The MCE heaped praises on staff of the Assembly for their selfless commitment and dedication for the development of the municipality, adding that he could not have achieved that milestone without the collective contribution of his staff.
